"Some monsters don't destroy you with violence first... they destroy the certainty that you were ever safe."
---
Darkness swallowed everything.
Anaya couldn't tell whether minutes or hours had passed.
The room drifted in and out of focus.
Her wrists burned where the restraints dug into her skin.
Every attempt to move felt heavier than the last.
The medicine flowing through her veins turned her own body into a prison.
She could hear voices.
Laughter.
Glasses clinking.
Someone walking across the wooden floor.
She forced her eyes open.
The room blurred before slowly becoming clear.
Armaan stood near the fireplace, calmly pouring another glass of wine.
His four friends occupied different corners of the room, speaking casually as though nothing about the situation was unusual.
No one looked shocked.
No one looked guilty.
That frightened her more than anything.
---
Her breathing quickened.
"Armaan..."
Her voice cracked.
"I trusted you."
He looked at her over the rim of his glass.
"And that's exactly why this was so easy."
The sentence struck harder than any blow could have.
The man who had asked permission before holding her hand...
The man who had smiled gently throughout the wedding...
The man who had promised to wait...
Had never existed.
He had only been a role.
A performance.
---
"You promised..."
she whispered.
He smiled faintly.
"I promised whatever you needed to hear."
The room erupted into quiet laughter.
Tears streamed down her face.
"You are evil."
He walked a few steps closer, stopping well out of her reach.
"No."
"I'm patient."
"There's a difference."
---
She struggled once more against the restraints.
The leather creaked.
Her wrists stung.
No matter how hard she fought, her body refused to obey.
The drug continued pulling her under.
Her eyelids became heavier.
Her thoughts slowed.
The room tilted.
---
"Please..."
she whispered.
"Let me go."
No one answered.
She searched every face in the room.
Not one of them showed compassion.
Only amusement.
Only curiosity.
Only cold indifference.
---
As her vision blurred again, a memory surfaced through the fog.
A rainy afternoon.
Ayaan smiling nervously.
"May I?"
His hand waiting patiently for permission.
The warmth of his forehead resting gently against hers.
The promise he'd once made—
"You'll never have to be afraid with me."
A sob escaped her lips.
"I'm sorry..."
she murmured to the empty air.
"I never betrayed you..."
“And now you finally understand what happens when you push someone like me away.”
Armaan said whilst laughing bitterly... "You are afraid of physical touch right...??? Now now only me but my friends will touch you... Let's see what you will do Anaya...".
Anaya shook her head, her fear turning into panic. “No… Armaan, please. This isn’t you.”
But the man in front of her only looked at her like she was a stranger.
The person she trusted. The person she loved. The person she believed would protect her…was the very person she needed protection from.
And as her screams filled the room, Anaya finally understood the most painful truth of all—the monster she had been running from was never outside her life. It had been standing beside her all along.
---
The drug overwhelmed her completely.
The chandelier above dissolved into scattered points of light.
The voices became distant echoes.
Everything faded.
The last thing she saw before consciousness slipped away...
was Armaan watching her with an expression so empty...
it was as though he had never possessed a heart at all.
Darkness claimed her once again.

End of Chapter Sixteen
"The cruelest betrayal is not discovering that evil exists.
It is discovering that the person you believed would protect you...
was the one who opened the door for it."
